Ayurvedic description

Bhumyamalaki, which literally means “small amalaki on the ground,” is a primary ingredient in the renowned herbal formulation Chyavanprash. It pacifies Kapha and Pitta doshas and is known for its rejuvenating qualities. Acharya Charaka classified the herb as Kasahara because it eases coughing, Mootrarogahara because it treats urinary diseases, and Swasahara because it relieves asthma.

Due to its tikta and kashaya rasa, it helps manage metabolism and boost immunity, and relieves skin disease by tikta rasa and pitta balancing properties. Bhumyamalaki is used to manage jaundice, digestive conditions, and worm infestations in children.

Climate & Region

Bhumyamalaki is 50 to 70 cm tall and bears ascending herbaceous branches. The bark is smooth and light green in colour and bears numerous pale green flowers. It is commonly found in coastal areas, and tropical and subtropical regions across India.
